This cover was designed by Jim Donoahue whilst working with his good friend Theo Dimson (at Reeson Dimson & Smith). The story in the novel (Giguère’s second) takes place in the Caribbean and centres around a complex love affair with a married man. The pink and purple hues evoke a distinctly feminine, warm and tropical feel, while the non-concentric circles provide a graphical representation of the eponymous whirlpool, drawing the subject in. The face underneath is that of the author herself, closely cropped to further amplify the sense of entrapment.
