1969 marked the 30th year after the start of Word War II. The Tools of War 1939/45 was produced by the Readers Digest Association (Canada) as the third in a series of publications covering different aspects of the conflict. This one focuses on a selection of the most important arms and equipment that were used by Canada’s navy, army and air force, as well as those used by their German adversaries. The volume concludes with a chronology of important events throughout the war.
The book provides context and technical background information to support the series’ main publication, “Canadians at War” (featured here). It shares much of the same colour palette and use of large black and white images with a vibrant overprint adding impact. The format is softback rather than casebound to reflect its status as a supporting document, while ensuring that the complete set retains a strong sense of cohesion.
