The resources of an exceptional mind are brought to bear on questions of prime importance in modern life in this brief and penetrating book by leading scholar and thinker Northrop Frye. The title presents an array of ideas and observations on the mythology of our day and its central elements, alienation and progress in modern culture. At the time of publishing, Northrop Frye was a Professor at the University of Toronto.
The cover, designed by renowned Canadian artist Blair Dawson, employs a process driven concentric visual technique combining multiple geometric layers of black, red and pink stripes contained within circles and squares. The states of mind and quality of life distinctive to the modern world, a thread running through this book, seems to justify this approach.
