A series of four text books that accompanied the teaching of science in schools from the start of Grade 7 (The Methods of Science 1) through to the end of Grade 10 (The Methods of Science 4). Each cover in the series uses a different background colour, over which illustrations depicting various scientific topics and techniques are laid.

Produced in 1961, this was the first of the four book covers that Harder designed, and is notable as the front cover design is mirrored on the back cover, as opposed to a wraparound design that features on the subsequent three books. Physics (energy) and Zoology contribute a number of units covered in the book, and so are well-represented on the vibrant illustrations on the cover, set against a white background.

Due to the nature of these books they rarely survive without a great deal of punishment so we are fortunate to have a complete set in this condition.
