A series of four text books that accompanied the teaching of science in schools from the start of Grade 7 (The Methods of Science 1) through to the end of Grade 10 (The Methods of Science 4). Each cover in the series uses a different background colour, over which illustrations depicting various scientific topics and techniques are laid.
This, the second book in the series was actually the last cover that Harder designed, completed in 1965, some 4 years after he began work on the first book, The Methods of Science 3. A unit in the book on astronomy led to the selection of a black background for the cover, helping to make sense of the illustrations of a star constellation and the phasing of the moon.
Due to the nature of these books they rarely survive without a great deal of punishment so we are fortunate to have a complete set in this condition.
