This publication was designed to support a traveling exhibition organised by TIME Magazine, featuring 85 canvases by 46 artists from across Canada. The cover image is a section of a painting by Rita Letendre called Koumtar (1974). Design by Burton Kramer employs rich brown pages for the bilingual introduction pages for each section, with contrasting bright pink end papers.

Layouts utilize a standard template across all entries. A full page is dedicated to the paintings themselves for each artist, sitting consistently on the right hand, whilst bilingual biographical details for each artist sit on left (with details relating to the accompanying images). Additional comments by the five curators (one for each of the sections: West Coast, Prairies, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Provinces of Canada) explain the reasons behind their choices.
