The fifth edition of “Research in Engineering”, a listing of the many research projects undertaken by members of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Waterloo. This publication was produced on an irregular basis and was distributed to industry contacts in the hope that they might provide funding for relevant projects.
The cover features a striking wraparound 3D duotone grid pattern that was designed to convey the sense of mystery and uncertainty present when undertaking engineering research. The pink is then continued throughout the book for rules and titles.
Winner in the 1975 “The Look of Books” competition; here follows a selection of judges’ comments:
“A lovely cover, an excellent grid; two colours used well through-out. Very competent and successful because it’s quiet; it gets its information across”
William Rueter
Designer University of Toronto Press
“I find this a very good production for a university: very restrained and very high quality”
Walter Jungkind
Professor of Graphic Design at the University of Alberta
“I would simply like to congratulate the University of Waterloo on having had the sense to hire a designer of that quality”
Carl Brett
