The notes that accompany this volume open with the following sentiment: “A colourful life is described as one of gaiety and romance, happiness and hope.” The booklet was designed to help graphic artists understand the processes, opportunities and limitations surrounding the reproduction of color. While color played an important role across many different media (especially television), its adoption in commercial printing was only now becoming widespread.
Frank Lipari’s cover design (created at Gazette Printing) was commissioned by Provincial Paper and printed on their Paragon Brilliant stock. It uses a main square device that is subdivided into bold right angled triangles, to express the relationships between different colours. The text section combines a blue shade of Paragon Offset with Georgian Offset (Smooth).
