A booklet produced by Ontario Hydro’s Public Relations Division for the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station, one of the world’s oldest and largest nuclear energy facilities. Work on the plant (which is located some 20 miles east of Downtown Toronto) commenced in 1966 and this booklet was published before the first reactor (Pickering A) commenced generation in 1971.
A simple cover illustration shows the arrangement of nuclear fuel rods inside the reactor’s core. Inside, a series of cross section diagrams show how the reactor is constructed, together with supporting text and annotations on the following subjects: Nuclear Fission, Chain Reaction, Control of Reaction, Heart of the Reactors, Control Systems, Radiation Control, Staff Training and The Future of Nuclear. The composition is beautifully accompanied by the Ontario Hydro symbol (top left), designed by Allan Fleming, with supporting (French) typography (top right) set in Helvetica.
This publication is written entirely in French.
