Comment

A book written by Jerrold Morris (Jerrold Morris International Gallery, Toronto) providing effective suggestions on ways to view modern painting, clearly explained and devoid of jargon. The cover design (by Gerhard Doerrié) conveys this through simple graphic means, encouraging the audience to adopt a fresh perspective. The grey dashed square represents the space that the art will occupy, one assumes representative of gallery space, frame or canvas. By enclosing the eye within this space (yet at an angle), the cover hints at a system for appraising abstract forms that could enable the reader to gain a new appreciation or understanding of modern art.
