On the run up to the 1976 Summer Olympic Games in Montréal, the Organizing Committee (COJO), overseen by the Design Quality Control Office (headed up by Fritz Gottschalk) worked with a large range of manufacturers and distributors to produce officially licenced products and merchandise in support of the games. These items were typically sold in national and international boutiques, major retail stores and of course at the games themselves.

Whilst the design of this item and its packaging is uncredited, Amik himself was famously designed by Pierre-Yves Pelletier with help from Guy St-Arnaud and Yvon Laroche on some of the refinements.

This embroidered crest of the Montréal Olympic mascot ‘Amik’ the beaver was listed as a ‘School and office supply’ product and sold for $1.39.
