In 1964, twenty-two forward looking Mennonites from Waterloo County, Ontario, pooled together some funds with the idea of creating a credit union to serve members of their community. The result of this shared collaboration resulted in the Waterloo County Mennonite Credit Union, and would eventually become known as the Mennonite Credit Union (MCU).
This brochure was prepared to acquaint existing and potential members with the philosophy, purpose and structure of the MCU organisation. It also listed services available to members.
The information was presented as an 18 page map-fold brochure, allowing if to fit perfectly into a #10 envelope for mailing. However, the piece further unfolds to reveal a poster that can be hung and used as a reminder. The primary graphic is an exploding version of the MCU symbol that, given the year in which it was produced, Fretz admits may have been influenced by the newly introduced CBC symbol by Burton Kramer.
In 2016, over 50 years after being formed, the Mennonite Credit Union changed its name to Kindred Credit Union.
