In 1968 the Society of Typographic Designers of Canada (TDC) renamed as the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC) to reflect its expanded focus on the wider field of graphic arts. This catalogue was created to accompany the first of the Society’s biennial exhibitions under the new name. The new identity (designed by Jacques E. Charette) is reproduced using thin rules in both red and black (overlapping) to reflect the bilingual focus of the Society and the catalogue. This colour distinction between black (English) and red (French) continues inside for the supporting editorial content. The overall publication is created in line with the Society’s ethos, that “the essential purpose of graphic design is to communicate as efficiently and effectively as possible.”
