To coincide with Expo 67, Tundra Books produced a set of six pocket-sized guides, each devoted to a specific theme: Art, Children, Films, Habitat, Sculpture, and this edition, Boutiques.

Written by Montreal Star journalist Dusty Vineberg, Boutiques surveys the fair’s international shops with the wit and sharp eye that made her one of Canada’s most distinctive voices. She captures both the cosmopolitan spirit of Expo and the irresistible pull of its merchandise — so irresistible, in fact, that she later confessed it had become ‘the most expensive assignment’ of her career.

The series was designed by Heiner Hegemann, who soon after left Canada to join Chermayeff & Geismar in New York. Each booklet follows a consistent format, with abstract geometric compositions filling the lower three-quarters of the cover and colour-coded titling positioned above. This edition features an arrangement of quarter circles in yellow, cyan, and magenta, with areas of overprinting creating secondary hues of orange, purple, and maroon. A vertical column of shapes extends along the back cover’s right edge, providing continuity across the design. Inside, the content is presented in black and white, largely text-based with select imagery interspersed throughout.
