A C+B symbol in the form of a Celtic cross. Originally drawn by Anthony Mann in a more precise, mechanical form, the firm’s President Jack Trivette felt it was too cold and not reflective of type in its emotional or physical sense. Under duress, Tony gave it an imperfect, eroded feel that connected more strongly to the wooden and metal ornaments used in traditional typesetting. It has a feeling of permanence and timelessness, managing to feel both modern and ancient at the same time. The symbol could be used in inventive ways through application, functioning as a watermark, a type of copyright symbol and as a playful illustrative element.
