The Canadian Lamp and Fixture Manufacturers Association was incorporated in 1951, and as the name suggests served the industry of lighting and related manufacturers in Canada. Members benefitted from strong relationships, support and promotion within the sector, and through association their products and services were marketed as being global leaders of quality and standards.

In 1976 Montréal based John German Graphic Design were commissioned to develop a new identity, and it was a young Walter Bohatsch who developed the creative solution for the association — a perfect execution of an illuminated maple leaf lamp/bulb graphic symbol and using an appropriate Canadian colour palette (red, white, black) supported by Univers typography.
