Annually, Canada Post releases a Souvenir Collection of Canadian postage stamps issued in that year. Produced with perforated, 3 hole binding punched pages (for combined into albums), each double sided page provides extensive information relating the stamp’s specifications, back-story and design. The pages are printed in black in only, with the mint never hinged stamps mounted in protective sleeves within the page — placing emphasis on their striking production in contrast to the stark, factual surrounding details.
The cover design employs a bilingual 2 column typographic grid (which remained consistent between 1977 and 1986) with a central illustration panel. In this area Rolf Harder creates a striking strip of four definitive like stamp designs, each printed in a single Pantone ink depicting the year 1978.
Notable stamp designs featured in 1978 were by Stuart Ash, Carl Brett, Theo Dimson, Jean Morin, Tom Bjarnason and Reinhard Derreth.
