The Canada Council (which now goes by its full name The Canada Council for the Arts) is a Crown Corporation that acts as an arts council to the government. They stand as one of G+A’s earliest clients (going back as far as the late 60s). The organization was created in 1957 to foster and promote the study and enjoyment of the arts. It funds Canadian artists and encourages the production of all art forms in Canada. This guide (which is an updated version of the original first published in 1972) was intended for those applying for grants though The Canada Council in areas of humanities and social sciences. The guide provided applicants with guidance and information to ensure compliance through the application process.

This guide is part of a suite of consistent materials that was produced as part of the ‘Killam Program”, which recognizes and supports outstanding scholars. The design employs a strong linear diagonal pattern incorporated within the primary bold typographic heading and set against contrasting colour with a generous use of clear space and supporting titling. The contents are bilingual with each language employing its own cover (by being flipped front-to-back). The insides are black type only and set in Helvetica.
