One of the greetings that Kramer sent to friends and associates to mark the commencement of each new year. The roots of this approach stem back to the foundation of the firm in 1967 and were produced annually in mini-poster format rather than the more traditional greetings card. Each design being unique in design and in its proportions.
At the heart of this 1970 greeting sits a variation of a design that was previously used on the cover of the corporate magazine for Stelco (No.2 — Scope), which Kramer had also designed in 1969. A quadrant of shapes is reflected to create the full image, which was originally produced in black and white. Each of these annual designs was an expression of Kramer’s fascination with geometry based design, and which continues today in his paintings and giclée prints.
This particular example was sent personally by Burton to Rolf Harder, who not only kept it in his collection, but kept it in perfect order.
