Formed in 1963, Beacon Bible Camp is a non-profit organization that exists to provide an adventurous Christian camping experience where people, particularly youth, can be encouraged to respond to the gospel of the Lord Jesus and to grow in their Christian life. Initially aimed at providing summer camp experiences for young Torontonians, the organization moved to a permanent location in Muskoka with the kindness of Charlie Nicholson, where it is still based today.
In 1976, a young Michael Landgraff decided to form his own studio. In this same year, and as one of his earliest clients, Landgraff developed a new identity for Beacon Bible Camp, who until this time had not really had one to speak of. The symbol for the organization successfully fuses several important references to produce a striking, modern marque: the flames of a campfire, native iconography, and the connective strands of a group. He then uses the simple process of fragmentation through square offsets and creates a beautiful ‘stained glass’ representation of the symbol, connecting directly to church and Christianity. A similar version of this symbol is still in use today, although now formed from circular offset segments.
