The annual Congrès of the Association Canadienne-Française pour l’Avancement des Sciences dates back to the 1930s. This publication was produced for the 1976 event, held at the University of Sherbrooke in May of that year, and includes a summary of communications produced for the event.
The event’s identity for this year consisted of a typographic geometric abstraction, using the number 4 as the foundation, and using graduating bands of colour into the figures — from red (at the top) to white (at the bottom). The work was no doubt influenced by Burton Kramer’s identity design for the CBC which was created only 2 years before and follows a broadly similar approach. This was the 44th time the event had been held and hence the play on 44 in this execution. Different years tackled the same task but with a unique design approach, each remaining distinctive while ensuring a sense of continuity over the years.
