Comment

A competition between local composers to write the “Montréal games song”, the winner’s entry set to take pride of place in the closing ceremony. 10 finalists are included on this commemorative LP, yet the overall design feels a little more experimental from much of the merchandise that was created around the Games. The lines on the cover appear to reference both musical notation and lanes on a sporting track. Absent are the silver ink and rainbow-coloured bands that were so commonly used on other materials. The colours in these bands were designed to reflect different aspects of the games, so it’s interesting to note that this piece uses red (officials) rather than purple (arts and culture).
